What’s been happening at the hall

Its been a busy month at the hall…. We have hosted the Euro football games (not the actual games of course but made that Hall available for all the England games) and you can read all about that elsewhere in the magazine.

We have continued the refurbishment programme ….. and this month its been doors at the top of the agenda. New fire doors have gone into the kitchen and toilet blocks. They are the least used of all our doors but are absolutely vital for the safe evacuation of the building and we now have up to date, state of the art doors very easy to open and use. It’s the sort of work that you don’t normally see
but without it we simply couldn’t stay open for the village. So many thanks to
all those who have given their time and energy to make sure we are the best
we can be in terms of safety and staying open for Mayfield, And we have another tale of doors to tell you all a really important story in the history of our hall – full details in the next magazine.

We are getting back to normal …. with regular groups now meeting.

But the most important piece of news is …. we received a letter. It was from Barbara Bradbury of Sunny Bank and contained a gift of money from her late husband Derrick. Her letter was addressed to Simon our Vice Chairman and says

Simon, Please find a cheque in Memory of Derrick for the Parish (Memorial) Hall as we have been to many events over the years and bought bricks when they needed them and looking at the Church magazine, it looks as if you have been a busy chap.
Barbara.

Barbara was referring to the pictures in last month’s magazine of Simon painting the main hall and indeed he was busy. Derrick loved the Memorial Hall and wanted to give something back and it is these individual acts of kindness that remind us how much the Hall is truly valued in our village. The Memorial Hall Committee sends their sincere thanks to Barbara and wish to let her know that Derrick will be remembered as a true friend of the hall in the years to come.
