My memories of Mayfield Memorial Hall date back to 1952. Mayfield School was having some repairs so the youngest children used the Scout Hut as our School Classroom. The Scout Hut was in the grounds of a children’s playing field now long gone, replaced by Jubilee Square. The Scout Hut was not very big and there was not a kitchen so for our School Dinners we went down to the Memorial Hall or as it was known then the Parish Hall.
Also held in the Parish Hall was the School Nativity Play. I was chosen by Mrs Simister to be Mary for two years and was dressed in a nightdress and had my plaits undone and wore my hair long and had to sing a song by myself. Our School Christmas Parties were also held in the Parish Hall.
